Composite bridge deck successfully joined to steel Last Sunday the deck for the viaduct that is to span the A27 motorway has been successfully joined to the trussed steel structure. Firstly the bridge deck was shifted in a U-shaped steel section. Then in two runs, one from the top and one from the bottom, the parts were glued together. Now that the deck built by FiberCore Europe is joined to the steel structure built by steel contractor Hillebrand, the bridge took its final shape. This combination of steel and composite is special. Also special was that gluing took place in one go over the full 140 meter length of the viaduct. As soon as the deck is fully installed, the bridge will be pushed across the A27 motorway. This is due for the first weekend of March. The joining of composite to steel underlines the co-operation of the structural parts as well as that of the constructing parties involved: Heijmans, Hillebrand and FiberCore Europe. |
