Bridges with a load-bearing steel construction were traditionally provided with a wooden bridge deck. This construction method has many drawbacks. The wooden deck is prone to rotting and requires a lot of maintenance. The life of a wooden deck is also relatively short. The underlying steel bridge structure is often damaged by permeated liquids. Think of rain, de-icing salts and oil. A composite bridge deck from FiberCore Europe offers the solution for new constructions and renovation.

Less maintenance on steel construction

We regularly carry out bridge renovations, widening and new construction with a FiberCore bridge deck. Thanks to the low dead weight, the underlying construction is minimally loaded and can be carried out lightly.

After installing a composite bridge deck, the underlying steel construction is less likely to be affected by oil, rainwater, and de-icing salts. Because unlike wooden planks, the composite deck does not allow liquids to pass through. This saves maintenance on the steel construction.
