Alkmaar | Klaas Bootpad | Bridge 252

  • Project Number: 15-184
  • Length: 12.5m
  • Width: 1.5m
  • Class: 5kN/m2
  • Year built: 2015

Located on the Klaas Bootpad in the municipality of Alkmaar was the 30-year-old wooden pedestrian bridge that needed replacement. The entirely wooden bridge was replaced by a low-maintenance bridge with concrete abutments and a composite bridge deck with steel handrails.
The design of the bridge was made by Sophia Engineering, after which the project went into execution on November 2, 2015. The old wooden pedestrian bridge was dismantled and disposed of in such a way as to avoid damage. After demolishing the bridge, the new abutments were realized, after which the composite bridge deck (measuring 12 meters and 3.5 tons) was lifted into place. Thanks to perfect alignment of the abutments, installation efforts were minimal. The sizing of the project was continuously monitored so there were no surprises.

Finally, the steel railings were attached to the abutments, the work site was cleared, and the new bridge was handed over/delivered to the client and opened to traffic on schedule.
