Increased safety for young cyclists
This bridge was constructed by the province of Limburg to increase the safety of cyclists. A lot of school children pass by here every day and they had to cross the road bridge on a very narrow bike path.
That new composite bridge has a design life of over 100 years. The bridge floats and is very easily repositionable. If the situation on Napoleon Road ever changes, the bridge can very easily be lifted and used again in another location. The low weight also allowed the abutments to be much lighter and made transportation and placement quick and easy. It is a bicycle bridge, but a vehicle weighing 15 tons can still easily cross it.
